Are you ready to help your 4th to 8th grade child become a strong communicator quickly so that middle school reading & writing feels easy?

We help older kids manage academic anxiety, organize school work and learn to enjoy reading & writing with peers. We meet frequently enough for students to see real progress. Our expert educators and super small program are perfect for families that value strong communication and for kids that need high touch support through the school year. We accept 12 students per semester.

The problems I solve… does this sound familiar?

✔️Have you tried 1-1, once a week standard tutoring in the past and it didn’t work or it didn’t transfer to better performance in the classroom?

✔️Does your child have trouble understanding & remembering what they read at the level required by their teacher or on tests?

✔️Does your child struggle to plan and produce high quality writing?

✔️Does your student need help with testing & planning for homework or big projects?

✔️Does your student struggle with anxiety, motivation, overwhelm or short-term memory loss?

✔️Does your student need more help than they can receive at school?

✔️Do you have a looming worry that once your child enters middle or high school they aren’t going to be ready for the stamina in reading & writing required?

Can you relate...

  • You are a busy parent so you need something flexible?

  • You want the very best for your child, so you are looking for the best support available with a certified specialist. It is time for new skills.

  • You are noticing that your student's reading or writing issue is creating bigger problems in mindset or across subjects.

  • Your student feels anxious about school but you aren't sure how to support them yourself.

Yes, your student might be struggling due to a specific learning issue but this is a NATIONAL PROBLEM.

On average 66% of 4th grade children in the U.S. can
not read proficiently. Half of U.S. adults can't read a book written on an 8th grade level. Curriculum wars and a massive qualified teacher shortage have created confusion and a lack of excellence in education. Our students are not writing, reading or participating in academic talk at the levels needed to make their own critical evaluations of the world. While I support and utilize many skills taught in the Science of Reading methods, the heavy shift towards skill based reading in lower grades has meant that kids are losing exposure to the interesting characters and well developed story lines real books offer. As a result they often struggle in middle school to write their own stories. Many of my students write very little at school and for kids with Language Based Learning deficits creative writing can heavily support reading.

COMMUNICATION PROBLEM.

YES we want our students to do well on the tests that determine their future options. However, the REAL consequence of struggling with reading and writing is that students do not feel confident sharing their ideas. Reading critically and writing clearly are life skills not just school performance issues. Google slide presentations, worksheets and software programs are not going to prepare our kids for a complex world information.

MEET CHRISTINA

I am a K to 12 Literacy Specialist and the founder of Conscious Tutoring.

I have an M.Ed. degree in literacy and additional teaching certifications in giftedness, reading intervention, English language learning and in the Orton-Gillingham approach. I have been teaching and training teachers for 14 years. During that time I have been lead educator at a Smithsonian affiliated museum, founded my own preschool in Atlanta, GA and worked in a large local K to 8 charter school in a variety of roles. I have had the pleasure of working with hundreds of students in every stage of their reading and writing journey.

As a mom of three school-age kids (ages 10, 13 and 15) I know the struggles of being a working parent and trying to build a strong culture of reading and writing while balancing activities and family time. So I want you to know you are in safe hands!

Our teacher’s are highly degreed, certified and I manage the program myself. I also lead teach most of the groups and do all of the 1-1 assessments.

When you book a 30 minute call you can expect me to listen to your child's needs and then let you know how the program works based on your student. This is not a big box tutoring company. I really believe in frequent and team oriented Literacy intervention. If kids are spending more time outside of school on learning I want it to be with friends and with the kind of support combination that creates results.

My pricing is transparent. My coaching is $1,600 per semester if paid in full and that price includes all 1-1 assessments, 32 (very small) group sessions and a bank of 1-1s. Monthly payments are available for a fee.

What Parents Are Saying

“My son has been very reluctant to get tutoring help. Being at home, having friends in the sessions and only having to focus for 45 minutes have made the perfect setting for him. I am wowed by his reading pace and progress. He seems more confident which is everything. He also really likes doing his 1-1’s at Christina’s house when that works for us.”

— Erica, Parent of 4th Grade Student, 2023

“I appreciate this program’s ability to gently nudge my 11yo son into more challenging reading material and writing exercises using step by step, concrete skills that build upon each other. Christina’s genuine belief in him to ‘strengthen his reading and writing muscles’ has been invaluable in strengthening his confidence academically for the things that are fun and even not so fun! When kids feel supported relationally, they are better equipped to believe in themselves, and Christina does this well. We look forward to continuing working with her."

— Caroline Gebhardt, LPC, RYT

“My son was so proud when he finished his first book-club book. He wants to be caught up before his next meeting. When it was was time to sign up again my son asked to re-join so he could keep meeting with the group of boys he had formed friendships with. I can not remember the last time my son finished a chapter book at home..”

— Spring 2023 Parent

“Paxton has thrived under this tutoring. The dynamic approach of ... incorporating group time has helped Paxton's focus. Working amongst other children has helped him to solve problems and learn in ways other than his own. Working in a group builds confidence, teaches him to stop and listen to other's ideas as well as learn from other students."

— Dana Stone, 2023

I am SO grateful we found this program last summer and for the huge influence you’ve had on Ryder. I’d been so anxious about Ryder starting middle school and I knew how much he needed some coaching and extra help with reading and writing to be able to perform his best. And I also knew that his dad and I were NOT the people to do that and also be able to maintain a positive relationship with him. Knowing you were there to push him, listen to him, help him, care for him, ALL THE THINGS, was so comforting. I’m just so glad he has you to help him navigate these weird, wonderful and hard middle school years. I’m a firm believer that it really does take a village and I'm super grateful to have you as part of ours. Looking forward to another great semester!"

Results.

All students start the program with a formal evaluation. Most sessions include a five minute gamified assessment. Students are regularly assessed and parents are frequently communicated with. We care about growth.
