Week 2: Not In A Reading Mood?
This week is all about 'getting in the mood to read'.
There are days we ALL don’t feel like reading - we’re tired, the book we have to read for school doesn’t draw us in, we’re ancy and would rather be moving - whatever it is, it happens to everyone.
In this video I interviewed Ava (my 14 year old) because she is the strongest reader and writer I have ever met in my life. Ava talks about how she is rarely in the mood to read and different ideas she uses to break out of that space. For example reading a comfort scene in a book that you've read a million times to 'warm up'. I never knew as her parent why she would switch books like that!
So this week, I encourage you to talk about what can you do to change your mood about reading. Some of Ava's ideas are really interesting - but we are all different, so think about ways you could change your mood! Maybe go for a quick walk to breathe that fresh air and get out some wiggles? Or have a special spot/chair/beanbag where when you’re in it, you have to be reading!
I find that meditating changes my headspace - check out this short kid-friendly meditation that might help you shake the anti-reading mood :)
